What the Heck Is the Webster Technique (And Why Your Pregnant Body Might Love It)
Hey mama (or soon-to-be one),
Let’s talk about something that sounds kinda fancy but is actually really simple, really gentle, and really good for your pregnant body: the Webster Technique.
If you’ve never heard of it, no worries — you’re not behind. This isn’t one of those things they teach in baby books or birthing classes (though honestly, they should). But it’s kind of a big deal if you’re pregnant and wanting to feel more comfortable, help baby get into the best position, and maybe just stop waddling like a penguin.
So, what is it?
The Webster Technique is a super specific chiropractic adjustment focused on your pelvis and sacrum (that triangle-shaped bone at the base of your spine). Basically, it helps make sure everything in your hips and low back is moving the way it should, your ligaments are happy, and your body isn’t throwing baby mixed signals about which way is up.
A lot of people come to me saying “My baby’s breech — can you fix it?” And here’s the thing: I don’t flip babies. That’s not what the Webster Technique is about. What I do is work with your body — to help it feel more balanced, open things up, and give baby more space to do their thing.
Because honestly? Your baby already knows the way out. Sometimes your body just needs a little help clearing the path.
What does a Webster session feel like?
First off, yes — we’ve got a table you can lie face-down on even with a bump. (Cue the heavenly chorus.)
Then I’ll gently check for any imbalances in your pelvis, make some specific adjustments (no body-slamming here), and work on soft tissue stuff like those tight ligaments in the front of your belly that are working overtime. It’s not dramatic or painful — most people leave saying, “Wait, that’s it?” while also noticing they can walk better, breathe easier, or finally sleep without cursing their pillow.
It’s kind of like giving your hips and uterus a spa day.
Who’s it for?
If you’re pregnant and:
Feeling off-center or like your pelvis is stuck,
Dealing with back pain, round ligament tension, or general discomfort,
Baby is breech or taking their sweet time turning head-down,
Or you just want to do everything you can to prep your body for labor…
Webster might be exactly what you need.
I usually start seeing folks around 30–34 weeks if baby’s breech, but honestly? Earlier is better. The more we can support your body’s balance along the way, the more comfortable you’ll feel — and the less last-minute stress you’ll have if baby’s not cooperating with the head-down plan.
Is it safe?
Totally. It’s a low-force, gentle technique created just for pregnancy. I’m certified in it, and I adjust people every day who are growing tiny humans. We’ll always talk through what’s happening, check in during the visit, and make sure you feel supported the whole time. If you’ve got a high-risk pregnancy or specific concerns, definitely check with your OB or midwife — but in most cases, Webster is a safe and awesome addition to your care.
You don’t have to tough it out through pregnancy feeling achy, crooked, or out of sync with your body. The Webster Technique is a gentle, non-invasive way to help your pelvis do its job, your baby find their best position, and your whole body feel a bit more like you again.
If that sounds good? Come see me. We’ll get your pelvis happy and your baby some room to groove.
